The wellnessbyNOOK position on materials

The anatomy

Six parts of the cabin. Read each one as you scroll.

Interior of the NOOK Outdoor Sauna with Canadian hemlock cladding and panoramic glazing
  1. Canadian hemlock interior

21 mm tongue-and-groove cladding, PEFC chain-of-custody certified, closed-grain and low-resin so it stays cool to the touch at 100°C.

  2. HUUM Drop 6 kW heater

Estonian-engineered by a three-generation stove-making family. Olivine stone load ~30–35 kg. App-controlled via HUUM UKU, JSON API for PMS integration.

  3. Tempered panoramic glass

EN 12150 certified, four times the strength of standard glass. Panoramic sliding door + side glazing lets the garden in while the cabin is closed.

  4. EPDM rubber roof membrane

Carlisle SynTec single-ply EPDM. 50-year manufacturer warranty. The roof is the longest-life material in the cabin.

  5. Thermowood pine cladding

28 mm shiplap, heat-treated to ThermoWood-D class at 190°C — sub-10% moisture absorption, thirty-year service life outdoors. Two stocked finishes (Negro, Roble).

  6. Helical-pile foundation

Six steel piles, Ø 76 mm, 1.5–2.5 m embedment. Installed in a single morning. Fully reversible — unscrews without leaving concrete behind.

Product questions

What operators ask before the dossier

  • What is the full footprint?

2.50 m × 3.90 m exterior. Interior 9.75 m² with 2.45 m ridge height. Designed to read as architecture from across a garden, not as a shed at the bottom of one.

  • What materials are inside?

Canadian hemlock, 21 mm tongue-and-groove, PEFC chain-of-custody certified. Closed-grain, low-resin, cool to the touch at 100°C. Red cedar upgrade available (+$9,720 USD).

  • What materials are outside?

Thermowood pine, 190°C heat-treated to ThermoWood-D class, 28 mm shiplap. Two finish options: Negro (black) or Roble (oak). Millboard composite upgrade available (+$15,984 USD) with a 25+ year manufacturer warranty.

  • What heater ships with the sauna?

HUUM Drop 6 kW (Estonian-engineered, designed by a three-generation stove-making family). App-controlled via HUUM UKU. JSON API available for PMS integration. Stone load: ~30–35 kg olivine.

  • What's the foundation?

Helical-pile steel screw system — six piles, Ø 76 mm, embedment 1.5–2.5 m, fully reversible. No concrete, no excavation. Two-person crew installs the piles in a single morning. The ground is left undisturbed if the sauna is ever removed.

  • What is deliberately not in the cabin?

No MDF (off-gases formaldehyde at heat — banned). No PVC. No particle board. No plywood. No generic plastic moldings. The interior is solid timber and stainless 304-grade hardware (316-grade on coastal exposure).
